Clinical Observation On Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated With Modified Juanbi Fuzheng Decoction

Objective:1.Through randomized,controlled clinical trials,to evaluate the clinical efficacy of modified juanbi fuzheng decoction in treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis(RA).2.To observe the effect of modified juanbi fuzheng decoction on laboratory indexes related to RA, so as to provide a clinical basis for studies of the mechanism.Method:Since January,2008 to December,2008,60 patients with pi-shen-yang deficiency type RA,came from Second People's Hospital of Fujian Province,were randomly divided into 2 groups by 1:1 ratio.Patients in treatment group were treated with modified fuzheng juanbi decoction,meanwhile,which in control group were treated with Methotrexate (MTX) combined with Hydroxychloroquine(HCQ).The treatment lasted 3 months.The changes of tender and swollen joint counts,the duration of morning stiffness,pain score, patient and physician global assessments of disease activity,health assessment questionnaire(HAQ) rating,erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),C-reactive protein(CRP) and rheumatoid factor(RF),were observed before and after treatment.And the results before and after treatment were compared between the two groups,as well as the ACR 20,and 50 response rates.Results:1.3 months after treatment,67%RA patients in treatment group achieved an ACR20 response,and 3%achieved an ACR50 response.In control group,57%RA patients achieved an ACR20 response,and 20%achieved an ACR50 response.The accumulated remission rate in treatment group was 70%,which in control group was 77%.There is no positive discrepancy in the rates between tow groups(P>0.05).2.After treatment,tender and swollen joint counts,the duration of morning stiffness,pain score,were relieved in the two group as compared with those before treatment(P<0.05).The changes before and after treatment of treatment group were similar to the control group(P>0.05).3.AIMS and HAQ after treatment showed a significant reduction in both two groups(P<0.05),and were similar between the two groups(P>0.05).4.The decline in ESR,CRP and RF after treatment of the two groups were significant(P＜0.05),and the discrepancy between two groups was negative (P＞0.05).5.In the incidence rate of adverse reactions,there was only one case observed in treatment group,which was a minor adverse reaction like upset stomach.No case of other adverse reactions like liver damage or decrease in leucocyte was found.Conclusion:Modified juanbi fuzheng decoction had an exact efficacy in the treatment of pi-shen-yang deficiency type RA that could improve symptoms,quality of life,and laboratory indexes.Accordingly,it is a relatively safe and effective treatment,which is worth expanding clinical application.However,its long-term effect remains to be further studies.
