Significance Of Aberrant Pim-3 Expression In Gastric Carcinoma

AIM:To study the role of Pim-3 expression in the development of gastric carcinomas.METHODS: The expressions of Pim-3 in 40 gastric carcinoma tissues and 20 adjacent normal tissues was detected by Semi-quantitative RT-PCR method and Immunohistochemistry method.we also compared relationship between Pim-3 expression with the clinicopathological parameters of gastric carcinomas.RESULTS: Pim-3 mRNA Semi-quantitative expression of the 40 specimens in gastric carcinoma group is 0.287±0.058, of the 20 specimens in adjacent normal group is 0.053±0.055. Pim-3 mRNA expression was enhanced in gastric carcinoma ,when compared to non-cancerous mucosa using T test( p < 0.001). Of the 20 specimens of moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma tissues , Pim-3 protein was detected in 10 cases using Immunohistochemistry method. Of the 20 specimens of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma tissue ,Pim-3 protein was detected in 4 cases , the positive rates of Pim-3 protein expression respectively were 50%and 20%,Of the 20 specimens of adjacent normal tissues, Pim-3 protein was not detected , There is higher expression of Pim-3 protein in moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma tissue when compared to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma tissue using Chi-square test( p < 0.05)., Pim-3 expression was closely correlated with lymphatic (p = 0.014) and venous invasion using Spearman rank correlation test (p = 0.008) ,but was no relationship with clinicopathological characteristics,such as the gender,age,tumor size,depth of invasion, Lymph node metastasis (P﹥0.05) .CONCLUSION:Pim-3 expression was not detected in normal gastric tissues,high expression of Pim-3 in gastric carcinoma was high,and it was possibly the earlier period event in gastric carcinoma procession,it will be seen as the biological marker of early phase of gastric carcinoma and a prognostic factor.
