| Objective: To investigate the falling ill characteristic and sum up the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome characteristic of Post-Stroke Depression (PSD), in order to prevent stroke and offer reference to TCM treatment.Methods: Clinical observation: during the investigation, 186 stroke patients were given marks of Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS), Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD), Neurologic Impairment Evaluation Criterion and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS). According to the SDS and HAMD score, the patients were separated into two groups, PSD group and non-PSD group. At the same time, we used the Syndrome Diagnosis Standard of Stroke to evaluate their TCM syndrome and evaluated their syndrome such as symptom, physical sign, tongue, fur of the tongue, pulses.Results: The results showed total incident rate of PSD is 41.4%, that of acute phase is 38.9% and that of convalescent phase is 46.7%. Among all the related factors, sex, age, characteristic and position of the pathological changes, stroke course, stroke times haven't significant effect on PSD. But the severe neurologic impairment, anxiety, hypersensitivity have striking correlation with PSD.In the two groups, the positive rate of windphlegm block, stagnation of the liver-Qi, the liver and the kidney wane, stirring of liver-wind and deficiency of both of Qi and Yin in PSD group.Conclusion: The results of the research hint that, in the process of treating PSD, under guiding of identifying the syndrome to cure, which using supplying deficiency or eliminating phlegm or activating blood to eliminate stasis or nourishing Yin, enough attention should be paid to disperse liver Qi and supplying deficiency of Qi and Yin to dispel depression. And we should try best to carry out systemic rehabilitation training to patients earlier, promote their limbs' functional recover, raise patients' self-care ability and make they enter good circulation between body and psychological rehabilitation to restrain the happening of PSD.
