| BackgroundEpithelial ovarian carcinoma is the most common ovarian carcinoma. Unfortunately, invasive epithelial ovarian carcinoma remains undiscovered in most patients until it has reached an advanced stage because there are no early symptoms or effective screening tests,resulting in a poor prognosis.They have a poor 5-year survival rate ,ranging from thirty to forty percent.EOC is the main cause of gynecological cancer related mortality in women and it is the main carcinoma that threatens their life and health.Recently, the main treatment is still surgery and platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy.The appearance of interval debulking surgery seems to bring hope to the patients,however,its benefit is still controversal according to recent reports.Some claim IDS will improve their survival ,some prove not ,and even there are few reporting IDS will shorten their remaining lifetime.Therefore,it is worth studying IDS.ObjectiveIn this study ,we will do our best to make it clear whether IDS will improve the OS or PFS of the patients suffering from advanced epithelial ovarian carcinoma and provide some clinical clues for the gynecologists.MethodsWe collected all the domestic and abroad articles about IDS in treating advanced epithelial ovarian carcinoma for clinical summary and meta analysis. The database included Pubmed, Medline, CNKI and CBM. In the library of Shandong University, we retrieved all the articles and then evaluated,selected, checked and analyzed them.Data collection and analysisThe data was collected and analyzed by one operator.ResultTotally 2 articles were included and 767 were randomised,evaluating 702 of them.Meta-analysis on the selected literature was conducted by means of Review Manager 4.2 software.According to the results of the random-effect model,the RRs of the OS and PFS are 0.89 (95%CI, 0.70～1.14) and 0.91 (95%CI, 0.63～1.31) respectively.ConclusionThe heterogeneity of the results in our study indicates that IDS will not prolong the OS or PFS of the patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.There is no difference between the IDS group and the non-IDS group. However, since the data and clinical trials about IDS are still very few , our study is based on only two articles. Therefore, it still needs further study in the future.Recently,three trials are ongoing aiming to adress the question whether IDS will improve the survival of the advanced EOC patients,and we hope it will bring good to them. |
