ObjectiveWe evaluated sperm concentration and motility and morphology of infertile men and fertile men, found out the cutting-off.Methodswe evaluated semen speciments from each of the male partnes in 80 infertile couples and 35 fertile couples. The female partners in infertile couples were required to have regular menstrual cycles, noovulatory dysfunction,a normal hysterosalpingogram. The sperm concentration and motility were performed manually within one hour after the sample was collected with the Makler couteding chamber, within one hour. Semen smears were stained by Papanicolaou method, sperm were classified as having normal or abnormal morphologic features according to strict criteria. We established normal cutting-off values for the standard semen parameters with the aid of receive operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis.ResultsSperm morphology were useful .The areas under the curves(AUC)of sperm morphology were 0.82.AUC of sperm concentration and motility were 0.79 and 0.7.Aalysising with sensitivity and specificity, the cutting-off were 48.5×10~6/ml of sperm conentration, sensitivity and specificity were 70% and 74.3%.The cutting-off of sperm motility were 45%,sensitivity and specificity were 63.8% and 65.7%.The cutting-off were 9%, sensitivity and specificity were 71% and 77%.ConclusionThe cutting-off of sperm concentration and motility and morphology were 48.5×10~6/ml,45%,9%. Sperm concentration Sperm concentration, motility, morphology can be used to classify men as subfertile or fertile.None of the measures were diagnostic of infertility alone,in combination can be bonsidered diagnostic of infertile. Sperm morphology were useful.
