Objective:To probe the ultrasonographic charactoristics of adult forearm and its clinical significance.Metheds:The ultrasonographic charactoristics of muscles, nerves, vascules and bones in 36 normal forearms of 18 adults were described.the cross-sectional areas of the radial nerve trunk, the superficial branch radial nerve and the deep branch radial nerve were measured.the ultrasonographic charactoristics of 25 innormal forearms in 25 patients were checked by high-frequency ultrasound. Results:In this study, the ultrasonographic charactoristics marked by bones and vascules of many sections of normal forearm were described in detail. At the bifurcation of radial nerve in the elbow, the cross-sectional area of radial nerve, deep branch radial nerve and the superficial branch radial nerve was 3.06±023 mm~2,2.41±0.16 mm~2 and 1.41±0.09 mm~2 respectively in 16 normal males, was 2.90±0.24mm~2,2.29±0.17mm~2 and 1.34±0.10mm~2 respectively in 20 normal females, was 2.98±0.21mm~2,2.37±0.20mm~2 and 1.38±0.09mm~2 respectively in 18 normal left forearms, and was 3.04±0.27mm~2,2.23±0.15mm~2 and 1.30±0.11 mm~2 respectively in 18 normal right forearms,Analysis showed:the cross-sectional areas of the superficial branch radial nerve and the deep branch radial nerve were different significantly(p<0.05) between male and female, left and right, but not of radial nerves trunk(p>0.05).The ultrasonographic charactoristics of 25 innormal forearms in 25 patients were described in detail.Conclusion:High-frequency ultrasound can be used as preferred noninvasive method of examination in forearm lesions and it is worth to be used widely in cilinic practice.
