Background:There are two opinions on the advancement of microsurgical lymph node transplantation for the treatment of upper limb lymphedema after mastectomy now.One is that using wrist as recipient site for VGLN (Vascularized Groin Lymph Node) transfering and the other one is that using the axilla as recipient site. Both of them have good clinical results.First, we just state how the traditional method of building the lymphedema model in canine was modified.Involve of the microsurgical treatment of lymphedema in canine model,we will comparison of the outcome and efficacy of VGLN transfer using the different recipient sites. Finally, the results will be evaluated, the best one will be applied to clinical patients. Objective:Simulating the lymphedema of patients after radical resection of tumor and radiotherapy,an improved model with obstructive lymphedema in a limb of canine was established and observed. To supply informations for further studying and clinical work. Methods:Modelling the clinical process, traditional radical resection of lymph nodes followed by local irradiation of X-ray was undertaken to prepare the canine model of lymphedema in a hindlimb. We will apply local irradiation pre and post operation. The circumference and volume variation of the hindlimb was measured after operation. In addition, lymphoscintigraphy and limb shape observation were made at postoperative 16 weeks. Results:The successful ratio was 100%in animals alive with a mortality rate of 0%The corresponding variation of limb shape and lymphoscintigraphy were observed at postoperative 16 weeks. The process of edema was similar to the clinical patients after radical resection of tumor and radiotherapy. Conclusion:The experimental model preparation with a high successful ratio and reduce the long period to form chronic lymphedema in canine's hindlimb. The anatomy of the canine's hindlimb was relatively similar to that of human beings,as well as convenient to observe. It is especially suitable to lymphatic microsurgical research on big lymph vessels.
