Objective To study the correlation of the prognostic predictor for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) and the expressions of vessel endothelium growth factor(VEGF), cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and non-metastatic gene-23-H1(nm23-H1) protein in tissues. Methods The expressions of VEGF,COX-2 and nm23-H1 protein was examined by immunohistochemistory ABC staining in 20 NPC tissues, and their relations with clinical stage of NPC,radiosensitivity of tumor, and metastasis of carcinoma were studied. Results The positive rate of VEGF,COX-2 and nm23-H1 was 80%,70%and 40% respectively.(1)The positive rate of VEGF,COX-2 and the negative rate of nm23-H1 in patients with advanced clinical staging, metastatic neck lymph nodes or T3-T4 was higher than theirs with eraly clinical staging,non-metastatic neck lymph nodes or T1-T2.(2)The expression of COX-2 and VEGF was negatively correlated with radiosensitivity of tumor.(3)The expression of VEGF was inclined to be positively correlated with it of COX-2,and to be negatively correlated with it of nm23-H1.Conclusions The results indicated that combined examination of VEGF,COX-2 and nm23-H1 was valuable to be learn the clinical staging, responsiveness, radiosensitivity and prognostic prediction of NPC.
