Objective:To investigate the factors which affects postmastectomy seroma formation. Methods:In a retrospective study including 120 patients who had undergone mastectomy in gastrointestinal and glands surgery department, the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi Medical University, the patients were divided into 2 groups, the seroma group included 40 patients while the non-seroma group(as the control group) included the rest 80 patients. The factors related to the seroma formation following mastectomy were Statistically analyzed. Results:All data of both groups were taken form complete medical records. statistical analysis indicated that, primary diseases as diabetes, hypertension and hepatic or renal insufficiency etc. could increase the risk of postmastectomy seroma, lymph nodes metastasis was also a risk factor, while biosynthesis fibrin glue could reduce the risk(p<0.05). The location and size of tumor and the type of incision were probably not risk factors(p>0.05).Conclusions:Under the approximately same condition of age, gender, race and the date of surgery, we discovered that primary diseases and lymph nodes metastasis were the risk factor of postmastectomy seroma, while biosynthesis fibrin glue could reduce the risk significantly. The location and size of tumor and the type of incision were probably not risk factors. Our study could be a reference in the treatment of postmastectomy seroma.
