OBJECTIVE To compare the application of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocol and gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) short protocol in patients with risk of poor response to controlled ovarian stimulation in IVF-ET. METHODS Clinical data of 20 patients undergoing IVF were retrospectively analysed. Among those 20 patients,10 of them were allocated to the GnRH-ant protocol and 10 were allocated to GnRHa short protocol. Compare the duration of stimulation, dosage of gonadotropin, estradiol level of hCG day, number of oocytes retrieved, fertilization rate, total embryos obtained and high quality embryos obtained between the two groups. RESULTS The dosage of gonadotropin used in ovarian stimulation is significantly lower in the GnRH-ant protocol than those in the GnRHa short protocol(p<0.05).No significant differences were noted in the duration of stimulation, estradiol level of hCG day, number of oocytes retrieved, fertilization rate, total embryos obtained and high quality embryos obtained between the two groups. CONCLUSION There is no apparent disparity between GnRH-ant protocol and GnRHa short protocol when they are applied in the patients with risk of poor response to ovarian stimulation.
