Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value and complications of d ouble-balloon enteroscopy in the diagnosis of small intestinal diseases.Methods A total of 154 patient with suspected small intestinal diseases were performed double-balloon enteroscopy. Among them,obscure recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding was found in 65 cases, the patient with abdominal pain was 64 cases, the patient with other symptom was 25 cases. 93 patient via mouth, 61 patient via anus and 32 via both mouth and anus.Results The lesions were found in 110 of the 154 patients, with a total positive rate of 71.43%, 44 patients were not found lesions.The findings were nonspecific enteric inflammation 25 cases, vascular deformity 14 cases(vascular deformity 11 cases, angioma 3 cases), polyps 14 cases, Crohn's disease 12 cases, entromesenchymoma 10 cases, parasitie diseas 8 cases, diverticula of intestine 7 cases, intestinal tuberculosis 7 cases, intestinal cancer 6 cases, intestinal lymphoma 4 cases, eosinophilic gastroenteritis 2 cases, marginal ulcer 1 case, superior mesenteric artery ayndrome 1 case, lymphatic vessel tumour 1 case, Bechcet's disease 1 case. The diagnositics yield was 55 /65(84.62%) in obscure recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding, 42/6(65.63%) in abdominal pain, 13/25(42.00%) in the other symptom. diagnostic yield was higher in group as obscure gastrointestinal bleeding to the as abdominal pain and the group as the other symptom. the diagnostic yields via mouth, via anus were 61/93 (65.59%), and 45/61(73.77%). No proce dure-related severe adverse events or severe complications in all cases.Conclusions Double-balloon enteroscopy is saft reliable diagnostic modality of high clinical value for small intestinal diseases; inflammation disease, tumor, vascular malformation(vascular deformity and angioma) is the most of double-balloon enterscopy in the diagnosis of small intestinal diseases.
