| Objective:To discuss the differences on survival situation of advanced tongue cancer patients treated with pre-operative inducing chemotherapy and post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy, and provide some references for the choices of the chemotherapy timing and the clinical therapeutic regimen. Methods:The clinical and the follow-up data of 78 advanced tongue cancer patients meeting the inclusion criteria for this study in the Stomatology College of Guangxi Medical University between Jan.1994 and Dec.2004 was analysed retrospectively. Among them,42 males and 36 females, the average age is 49.6; cisplatin (CDDP) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) combinative chemotherapy scheme was used;32 cases of the 78 patients used pre-operative inducing chemotherapy.,24 cases of them used post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy and 22 cases used surgery alone; life-table method,RxC chi-square test and Kaplan-Meier log-rank test were used to calculate and compare 3,5-year survival rates and recurrent rates, besides, survival curves were drawn. Results:The short-term over-all response rate of 32 cases with pre-operative inducing chemotherapy was 53.13%。The 3 and 5-year survival rates of pre-operative inducing chemotherapy group,post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy group and surgery alone group were 71.88%,53.13%,70.83%,58.33%,40.91%,31.82% respectively, The 3 and 5-year recurrent rates of these groups were 34.38%,56.25%,37.50%,54.17%,59.09%,77.27% respectively. The comparison of 3-year survival rates among the 3 groups showed that pre-operative inducing chemotherapy group and post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy group compared with surgery alone group had statistical differences (p<0.05), while pre-operative inducing chemotherapy group compared with post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy group showed no significantly statistical difference (p>0.05). The comparison of 3-year recurrent rates,5-year survival rates and recurrent rates among the 3 groups showed no significantly statistical difference (p>0.05).Conclusion:1. The therapeutic regimen of pre-operative inducing chemotherapy and post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy can improve the 3-year survival rates compared with surgery alone in advanced tongue cancer patients, but the influences on the 3-year recurrent rates and the 5-year survival rates and recurrent rates are not significant.2. Selection of pre-operative inducing chemotherapy or post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy for advanced tongue cancer patients has no significant influences on the 3,5-year survival rates and recurrent rates, meanwhile, the selection of pre-operative and post-operative chemotherapy timing has no obviously significant efficacy on advanced tongue cancer patients. |
