Clinical studies have indicated that some diseases such as insomnia, anxiety, and minor melancholia all have close correlation with autonomic nervous system. Moreover respiratory training can regulate the function of human autonomic nervous system, relieve the pressure of spirit and some emotions like nervousness, anxiety. The aim of this paper was to research and design a respiratory training system based on biofeedback which was framed by Lab VIEW software platform. The system was able to analyze and back feed the autonomic nervous activity visually, qualitatively and instantly. It would also prompt the client about its respiratory condition synchronously to guide respiratory training. Because heart rate variability (HRV) is the best indicator to evaluate autonomic nervous activity, the system used low frequency and high frequency ratio of HRV (LF/HF) as indicator of biofeedback. Through biofeedback respiratory training experiment we discussed how sound and image biofeedback signal affected the respiratory training. The results showed that biofeedback could affect the balance of human autonomic nervous system, and both of sound and image biofeedback could improve respiratory training effect.
