Objective To evaluate the potential of PRF to enhance bone regeneration in sinus floor elevation in dogs and evaluate their osteogenic potential. Provide the experimental basis to find the repairing material for the bone defect in sinus floor elevation. Methods Six heathy adult dogs were chosen. Both right and left maxillary sinus of every dog were divided into test side and control side with the completely random method. In test side, HA was added to PRF, and in control side HA without PRF was used in sinus floor elevation. Three dogs were sacrificed at 8 and 12 weeks after operation respectively. These specimens were treated for X ray, ESEM and histologic analysis to observe the osteogenic speed and quality and material degradation in each side. Results There were varying degrees bone regeneration in all experimental sides 8,12 weeks after operations. In the 8 weeks' test sides, there was a little degradation of the material and new bones formation was not mature. No degradation of the material was obvious and few new bones were formed in the control sides. In the 12 weeks' test sides, degradation of the material was almost completed and new bones formation was mature. The material was partly degraded and new bones were formed but not mature in the control sides. Conclusion (1) The use of PRF-HA can promote bone defect repair and accelerated bone remodelling with promoting the synergy of ossification and material degradation. PRF-HA proves to be a favourable biological transplantation material with bone induction and conduction dual role. (2) PRF membrane has favourable biocompatibility and cellular compatibility. It can promote cell differentiation, improve the quality and speed of tissue regeneration and possess favourable bone induction. (3) the use of PRF-HA in sinus lift of dogs can promote bone regeneration, shorten the healing time and provides experimental basis for the clinical application.
