| Objective:To study the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on tissue lesions in an experimental model of acute pancreatitis induced by pancreatic duct ligation. Animals :48 adult female SD rats weighed 180-200g.Methods :56 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups the sham group (n=8), control group (n=24) and hyperbaric oxygen therapy group (n=24), then the 2 groups were divided into 3 subgroups of 8 rats each undergoing euthanasia on days 1, 3, 7 after the acute pancreatitis induction, after that pancreas were evaluated using the criteria of Jan Schmidt (1990) as following: edema hemorrhage acinar necrosis and leukocyte infiltration. The sham group was used to make sure that the model was successfully induced. The concentration of inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-a) of the blood were measured by ELISA.Results: Amylase level in the sham group after ligation is:798.50±113.5IU/L and in the control group:3156.2±639.9IU/L, in the hyperbaric treatment group: 2973.1±1042. 6IU/L,there is significantly difference between the sham group and the control group but no difference between the control group and the hyperbaric group in the first day after ligation of the pancreatic duct. The concentrations of inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-a) in the group of hyperbaric oxygen therapy remarkably decreased after 7days of therapy and 7days hyperbaric oxygen therapy can significantly reduce acinar necrosis, edema, leukocyte infiltration and hemorrhage. Conclusions: hyperbaric oxygen therapy daily at 2.5ATA for 7days is efficient in reducing the concentrations of inflammatory cytokines and can reduce hemorrhage, acinar necrosis of pancreatitis. |
