Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of sustained-release chemotherapy using fibrin glue enwrapping mitomycin(MMC/FG) for gastrointestinal poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Methods All patients with gastrointestinal poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma after surgical resection of their primary tumor were randomly treated with MMC/FG (experimental group ,20 cases)or none (control group ,20 cases) . The local residual and the tumor bed regional sprayed of MMC/FG and marked with marker. To inspect local tumor recurrence and lymphatic metastasis after operation 1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 months through scanning CT. To inspect the effectiveness and side reaction of local chemotherapy through blood biochemistry, blood and urine routine examination after operation 7 days. Results After operation 6, 12 and 18 months, in the experimental group, the tumor progression case is 1, 3 and 5 respectively. There were 15 cases without local residual progression after 18 months follow-up. After operation 3, 6, 12 and 18 months, in the control group, the tumor progression case is 1, 3, 7 and 13 respectively. There were 7 cases without local residual progression after 18 months follow-up. There were not chemotherapy side reactions after operation 7 days all the cases. Conclusions Sustained-release chemotherapy using fibrin glue enwrapping mitomycin(MMC/FG) have inhibitory effects for the local residual of gastrointestinal poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. And the toxic side effects of MMC/FG are endurable.
