Clinical Research On Acupuncture With Head Massage Therapy In Treating Insomnia

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical curative effect on treating insomnia with acupuncture with head massage therapy, which can provide the basis for the clinical mechanism and facilitate the clinical extensive use clinically.Methods60 patients with primary insomnia from the outpatient and inpatient departments were chosen and randomized into two groups, the acupuncture plus head massage group of 31 patients and the simple acupuncture group of 29 patients. The effect of treatment was assessed by the PSQI questionnaire, performed before and after treatment. Then compared the different effect of the two therapeutic methods.ResultsThere was no difference on each factor and total score of PSQI among the two groups before the treatment (P>0.05). And after treatment most factors and total score of PSQI of two groups were improved (P<0.05). They improved significantly after treatment on the subject of sleep quality,sleep latency,sleep during,sleep disturbance,daytime dysfunction and total score of PSQI(P<0.05). The electro-acupuncture with head massage therapy group was significantly better than the simply electro-acupuncture therapy group on subjective sleep latency,sleep efficiency,sleep disturbance and daytime dysfunction of PSQI after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion The acupuncture with head massage therapy and simple acupuncture therapy may improve most factors and total score of PSQI. Two groups improve significantly after treatment on subjects of sleep quality,sleep latency, sleep during, sleep disturbance,daytime dysfunction and total score. The acupuncture with head massage therapy group was significantly better than the simply acupuncture therapy group on subjective sleep latency,sleep efficiency,sleep disturbance and daytime dysfunction. So the acupuncture with head massage therapy is an active natural medical treatment of curing patients with insomnia.
