Clinical Study On Quality Of Life On MMT Patients Treated By Acupuncture

Methadone Maintenance Treatment is a substitution for opiates dependent persons, such as heroin, and also an alternative drugs use since no 100% effective eradication has been found. Methadone is a synthetic narcotic analgesics, of which long-term use could develop to both physical and psychological dependence and tolerance. Withdrawal Symptoms arise during its reduction. How to relieve adverse reactions in MMT and improve their life qualities became an urgent issue in world.ObjectiveDrug Dependence is a Chronic brain syndrome consists of neurological disorder, mental defect, and Hypo-Social-Adaptation. Acupuncture stands out for its direct regulation on Jing-luo system, notable effect, and less side-effect in treating both mind diseases and cerebropathy. Our study was to observe MMT patients' Quality of Life and effecatives in rehabilitation under acupuncture and methadone.MethodsThe study was a Randomized Controlled trial with single-blind method. All cases were collected in Changkang Voluntary Rehabilitation center in Xiamen. 60 patients were randomized equally into 2 groups. Their basic data were proven comparable under statistics(P>0.05). All patients were under MMT, while only acu groups received acupuncture therapy. Acupoint formular were consisted of main points and selected points depended on differentiation. Main points are four ponits for shen, three points on temporal, three points for stabilization, three points on occipital, three points for intelligence, three points for vigor(Renzhong, Shaoshang, Yinbai), three intelligent points on palm(Neiguan, Shenmen, Laogong). selected points:reducing Hegu, Taichong in Qi stagnation of Gan-liver; reducing Shaofu, Xingjian in excess fire of Xin-heart and Gan-liver; reducing Fenglong,Daling in dampness clotting in Xin-heart; enhancing Zusanli in absence of Pi-spleen and Wei-stomach. Scalp points were inserted horizontally of 0.5-0.8 cun; Neiguan and Shenmen were inserted verticality of 0.5-0.8 or 0.3 cun; Laogong were inserted towards Hegu of 0.5 cun. All points were enhancing or reducing slowly after getting Qi.30 min for every time, and twirling needles every 5-10 min,5 times a week, one month counted a course. Methadone were chosen form Hydrochloric acid methadone oral liquid, produced by Tiansun Pharmaceuticals Limited(1ml:1mg)。Total grades, and grades for physical, mental and social ability and symptoms/side-effect were evaluated by QOL-DA V2.0(revised by National Institute on Drug Dependence, Peking University). All data were processed by SPSS.ResultsAfter 30 days, acu group manifested its statistical significance on. improving QOL, controlling somatization, physical and social ability (P< 0.01), while mentai ability between two groups showed no difference (P> 0.05)ConclusionAcupuncture could elevated QOL on MMT patients, improved their mental and social ability, especially in physical symptoms. rehabilitation of drug abuse is almost a blank except MMT. Acupuncture shows advantages as a supplementary therapy onits ensured effective.
