Objectives: To analyze compliance among new tuberculosis patients in Chaohu city and study compliance situation and its influence factors, and then reveal the TB control system problems, propose science-based interventions and recommendations for further improve the TB control system, controlling of the occurrence of compliance effectively, improve the quality of the implementation of DOTS strategy, establish mechanisms of sustainable development in TB control.Methods: The seeking health, diagnosis and medication compliance behavior of 750 cases of tuberculosis patients in three regions of Chaohu city in Anhui province were studied. According to references, designed structured questionnaire were adapted to survey patients by face to face and semi-structured interview outline were used to talk to key informative interview. Questionnaire data was analyzed using both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis methods. These quantitative analysis methods included: descriptive statistics (mean, rate, frequency and composition ratio, etc.); single factor analysis (chi-square test); Multivariate analysis (Logistic regression analysis). While qualitative analysis methods incorporated the descriptive analysis and typical case study based. EpiData 3.1 and Stata/SE 11 statistical software were used for data entry and data analysis respectively.Results: 750 new patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were surveyed. Among them, 200 were from Juchao district, 250 from Lujiang district, and 300 from Wuwei district. The average rate of seeking health and diagnosis compliance in TB patient was 81.60%. The rate for medication compliance these patients is 74.00%. The patient's location, profession, debt situation, and economic situation affect statistically significant differently between patients with seeking health and diagnosis compliance behavior and without such behavior. The knowledge of regular treatment can promote the rate of seeking health and diagnosis compliance. Patient's self and social support can also increase such rate. While patient's location, debt situation, and economic situation were statistically significant difference between patients with medication compliance behavior and without such behavior. Knowledge of the free treatment policy of our national and duration for treatment can also help to improve the medication compliance behavior; Furthermore, the patient's perception and social support had positive impact on medication compliance.Conclusions: Even great achievement has made through the implementation of DOTS in Chaohu area, the behavior of noncompliance still influence the cure rate of TB. (1) the noncompliance rate of seeking health and diagnosis for TB patient was higher in Lujiang, while the compliance rate for TB patients in Wuwei was higher. Those patients with their profession as peasant, ever in debt or with heavy economic burden will have higher noncompliance rate of seeking health and diagnosis. (2) Knowledge of TB treatments is the key factors that can improve these two compliance rate. (3) on the other hand the lack of social support, secrecy and side-effect, compliance of periodic get drug or examination of patient and other factors can raise noncompliance rate.Suggestions: (1) improving the treatment steps; (2) enhancing the education of TB treatment; (3) building family and social support environment.
