Objective:To investigate the effects of exenatide on glycemic control,βcell function and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with double diabetes (DD).Methods:In the clinical control study,14 cases of double diabetes were enrolled(age 19~65 years, duration 2~16 years). According to the principle of informed consent,10 patients were administered exenatide 5μtwice daily for 30 days then 10μg enenatide for 150days (intervention group),4 patients into the blank control group. All the patients continued conventional therapy, and followed up at 30,90,180 days.Results:(1) Totally there were 12 patients completed the study, including 8 from intervention group and 4 from control group. Baseline characteristics of two groups were similar, except thigh fat ratio, which was higher in intervention group (P=0.041)(2) After 30 days, compared with control group, intervention group still shown a significant higher thigh fat ratio (P=0.040). Intervention group was associated with lower levels of 2hPBG(P=0.006), HbAlc(P= 0.047), TC (P=0.022) and LDL-C (P=0.030) compared with baseline(3) After 90 days, except thigh fat ratio (P=0.041),all characteristics of two groups were similar. Compared with baseline, intervention group was associated with significant reduction in Wt (P=0.005),Hc (P=0.007),leg fat ratio (P=0.007),2hPBG (P=0.037) and HbA1c (P=0.046)(4) At the end of study, there was no statistically difference in all characteristics between two groups. Compared with baseline intervention group was associated with significant improvements in Wt (P=0.004), hs-CRP (P=0.044), thigh fat ratio (P=0.004),2hPBG (P=0.013), HbA1c (P=0.037).But the WHR was increased significantly (P=0.043).5. FCP,2hPCP and△CP had no significant changes between two groups. Conclusion:Exenatide improved glucose metabolism, weight, hs-CRP and other cardiovascular risk factors in patients with double diabetes. The effects on isletβcell function still need further study.
