Objective:To evaluate the application of PET/CT in the prediction of recurrences and metastases of oral cancer, comparing with the diagnosis of pathology and Clinical follow-up.Methods:Thirty patients with oral cancer which were doubted to be recurred clinically after the combined radical operation of jaw and neck, were selected from the Department of Stomatology, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from Dec 2006 to Apr 2011.These samples were all examined by PET/CT and their follow-up were completed. Besides that,13 species were also checked by CT scanning, and the other 3 species were also checked by MRI scanning. According to the completed cases including pathology result and radiology information, The recurrences and metastases of oral cancer was evaluated by PET/CT, including the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive, then analyse the diagnosis value of the application of PET/CT. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for the explore the difference of SUV between the cancer and normal tissue.Result:1. The recurrences and metastases of oral cancer examined by PET/CT were showed by 91.67% for sensitivity,83.33% for specificity, 90.00% for accuracy,95.65% for positive predictive,71.42% for negative predictive.2. The Mean of SUV for the cancer tissue is more than that of normal tissue. Inclusion:1. The application of PET/CT has an important part in the early diagnosis of the recurrences and metastases of oral cancer.2. The accuracy of PET/CT is more than that of CT or MRI for the diagnosis of the recurrences and metastases of oral cancer.3.The Surgery of the deep metastases of oral cancer can be based on PET/CT.4. The value of SUV helps to indentify the characteristics of the tumor in some way.
