Objective To explore the feasibility of laparoscopy-assisted esophagectomy. Methods From January 2010 to December 2010,35 patients with esophageal carcinoma in our hospital, including 19 cases by laparoscopy-assisted esophagectomy,16 cases with left thoracal esophagectomy. Results All the operation are successfully performed by laparoscopy. No patient required laparotomy. The number of removed lymph nodes was 20.8±12.7.Postoperative complication included gastric retention (2 patients). The number of removed lymph nodes by left thoracal esophagectomy was 16.2±9.8(P>0.05).Conclusion Laparoscopy-assisted esophagectomy is a safe feasible technique and can provide a wider extent of lymphadenectomy. But the 5-year survival rate still need more study.
