| Background:Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis is an uncommon condition, which over the past 10 years has been diagnosed more frequently due to greater awareness and the availability of better noninvasive diagnostic techniques. Because of the generally good prognosis and variable clinical signs, many cases remain clinically undetected but some patients suffer complications and die. The clinical spectrum, however, is wide and recognition remains a challenge for the clinician.CVST is described as a continuing process in which the balance of prothrombotic and thrombolytic processes is disturbed, leading to progression of the venous thrombus with time.So early diagnosis is difficult. We took a retrospective a nalysis on the causes, clinical symptoms, imaging characteristics, treatments and prognosis of 44 our hospital patients with CVST from 2007 to 2010. It is important to increase the early diagnosis rate and decrease the misdiagnosis and mortality rates of this disease in practice. Therefore,it is of grate significance for this study. Objective:To study the clinical and imaging characteristics of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis(CVST), as well as to increase the early diagnosis rate and decrease the misdiagnosis and mortality rates of this disease in practice. Methods:Took a retrospective analysis on the causes, clinical symptoms, imaging characteristics, treatments and prognosis of 44 our hospital patients with CVST from 2007 to 2010.Results:There were 15 males and 29 females among the 44 patients. The age of onset ranged from 14 to 72 years old.12 cases had acute course(1-5days),15 cases had subacute course(1-2weeks),17 cases had chronic cours (more than 2 weeks).3 patients were recurrence. The most common cause was childbirth, the other causes included oral contraceptive, inflammation, trauma and anemia. The symptoms which presented firstly included headache, fever, consciousness impairment, limb weakness, seizures, weak sight and allolalia. Among them, headache was the most frequent symptom. Two of these patients also suffered limb thrombosis. Among these patients, six cases were performed DSA and 42 cases were performed MRV.17 patients with at least two sinus affected.42 patients with this condition after treatment improved obviously,2 cases were poor prognosis who were recurred patients, finally automatic discharge.Conclusion:1. Infectious factors which caused CVST were only 3 cases. So we should pay more attention to non-infectious risk factors. 2,3 patients were recurrence. They were serious. It is essential to treat with anticoagulant longer than before.3,Nearly one half of all patients with at least two sinus affected. It is important to pay more attention to CVST.4,The results from plain CT were intracerebral hemorrhage(5 patients), subarachnoid hemorrhage(5 patients),cerebral infarct(4 patients)and others. So we should pay attention to young people with stroke, in order to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. |
