The chemical constituents of Ajania nematoloba and Wedelia prostrata have been studied in this thesis. Moreover, some compounds were tested for their anti-tumor activity against several human tumor cell by standard MTT method. Ajania nematoloba is the species of Ajania belong Compositae family. There are about 30 species over the world and 29 of these species widely distributed in our country. Many Ajania species have long been used as medicinal plants for the treatment of calming,antipyretic,relieving phlegm and relieving cough.The chemical investigations of this genus indicated that sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids,coumarin, triterpenes and sterols were its main components.Wedelia prostrata is the species of Wedilia belong Compositae family. There are about 60 species over the world and 5 of these species distributed in our country. The investigation of pharmacology showed that they possess efficacy protective and choleretic, anti-virus, anti-inflammatory and so on. The chemical investigations of this genus indicated that diterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, organic acids were its main components.The compounds were isolated by means of silica gel,sephadex LH-20 ,MCI gel columm chromatography and HPLC etc. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectral methods (UV,IR,EI-MS,ESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,DEPT etc). Some of the compounds were tested for their anti-tumor activityIn the present paper, 12 compounds were isolated from the methanol extract of Ajania nematoloba. On the basis of spectroscopic data, their structures were elucidated as luteolin-7-O-β-D- glucopyranoside(A1), acacetin-7-O-D- glucopyranoside (A2), eriodictyol-7-O-β-D- glucoside(A3), 3'-methoxy-luteolin-7 -O-β-D– glucopyranoside(A4), luteolin(A5), apigenin(A6), cirsilineol(A7), jaceosidin (A8), centaureidin(A9), baihuaqianhuside(A10), daucosterol(A11) andβ-stiosterol(A12), separately.Some compounds were tested for their anti-tumor activity against several human tumor cell lines K-562,sw-1116 and colon-26 by standard MTT method. The result indicated that cirsilineol(A7)showed good anti-tumor activity ,while others exihibited inactive.Seven compounds were obtained from the methanol extract of Wedelia prostrate with petroleum ether and identified as ent-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid (W1), ent-kaur-16α, 17-dihydroxy-19-oic acid (W2), ent-kaur-15α- senecioyloxy- 16-en- 19-oic acid (W3),β-sitosterol (W4), stigmasterol (W5), stigmasterol-3-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (W6) and n-hexacosanol (W7).Some compounds were tested for their anti-tumor activity, there is no positive results on the K-562 and SW-1116.The results of this investigation were expected to enriched the database of natural products and to afford important academic basis for the exploitation and utilization of natural resources.
