Objective Primarily explore the influence of self-efficacy intervention on quality of life of bladder cancer patients with stoma.Method Our research was intervention study. Convenience sampling was used to select 43 radical cystectomy patients with abdominal stoma from urology ward in our unit (Zhejiang) during from August 2008 to August 2010. The 43 patients were divided into two groups, the control group(N=20) and the experimental group(N=23). The patients of control group were provided with the routine care while the experimental group re-ceived the self-efficacy intervention on the base of the routine care, and the self-efficacy intervention including communication, psychological counseling, physical training and family support. The two groups were surveyed at the day before operation, and in 10days, one month and three months after operation. The SPSS 16.0 software was used for statistical analysis of the data.Result (1) The comparison between two groups of patients in 4 time points, showed that the gross general self-efficacy, quality of life scores in the functional areas of the basic trend was decreased at the first and then increased, but the experimental group was higher than the control group's. The quality of life symptoms in a single area of the field, and 6 for the first score of the basic trend was increased and then decreased, but the ex-perimental group was lower than the control group's. (2) The self-care ability of the two groups in 1 month,3 months after operation were significantly difference respectively (P<0.05). (3) T test for two sets of data, demographic data and the day before surgery gross proceeds of general self-efficacy and quality of life scores in all areas were no significant difference (P> 0.05). The 10 days after surgery:the physical function, role function, cognitive function of the experimental group were higher than the controls group's, but the fatigue, appetite loss were lower than that of control group (p<0.05). Furthermore, after 1 month, the experimental group's general self-efficacy was better than the control group's too (P<0.05). After 3 month, the general self-efficacy, quality of life in the general health status, physical function, cognitive function of experimental group were better than the control group's (P<0.05).Conclusion (1) The nursing intervention of enhancing general self-efficacy may improve the quality of life of patients with bladder stoma. The change for quality of life in which the overall health status, physical function, role function, cognitive function, fatigue and appetite loss are significant.(2) The nursing intervention of enhancing general self-efficacy may improve their self-care ability after the stoma. (3) The general self-efficacy and life of quality of patients with bladder stoma can improve as time go by.
