Applications of chiral drugs in the modern medical field account for a largely proportion, however, there are significant differences for the enantiomers of chiral drugs in vivo pharmacological activity, metabolism kinetics, efficacy and toxicity, etc. Even two enantiomers can be used as completely different drugs, so resolution of chiral drugs and detection of the enantiomeric purity of chiral drug will direct for research and development of chiral drugs. Chiral chromatography was most commonly used to analysis chiral drugs. But gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography always need of derivatization or depend on the expensive chiral column, which are operating more trivial and limited. Comparatively, there are advantages for capillary electrophoresis, i.e., the quickly analysis speed, the higher separation efficiency, the less reagent consumption, the lower operating expense etc. Moreover, it is easy to operate and friendly for environment. This paper established methods as hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin–capillary zone electrophoresis to separate of pitavastatin calcium and verapamil enantiomers. In chapter 1, various kinds of chiral separation techniques in the development and application of pharmaceutical analysis were overviewed, chiral capillary electrophoresis separation was introduced and the types of chiral additives in capillary zone electrophoresis application were described. In chapter 2, a method of capillary zone electrophoresis with hydroxypropyl- cyclodextrin added has been established for the chiral separation of pitavastatin calcium enantiomers. In order to optimize the method, studies were performed with several parameters, i.e. composition of the running buffer, pH of the running buffer, the type of additives and so on. Furthermore, the method of precision and reproducibility was examined. In chapter 3, a method of capillary zone electrophoresis with hydroxypropyl- cyclodextrin added has been established for the chiral separation of verapamil enantiomers. Studies were performed with several parameters, i.e. the running voltage, composition of the running buffer, the type of additives, pH of the running buffer and so on.
