The style and quality of modern life be constantly changing, more and more knee lesion has been caused from traffic accidents, sports etc. Otherwise, the inhabitant's morbidity of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis is high in cities and towns, and there are many patients which have severe deformities of knee. The most effective way to solve this problem is the treatment of knee replacement surgery.However, a majority of prostheses used for knee replacement are almost imported, which are designed based on European and American, and not fit for Chinese knee joint. In addition, some families can't afford the high price of these imported products, so that may make the illness more severe, even paralyzed. It is urgent to develop our own knee prostheses based on the characteristics of Chinese knee joint.The design and manufacturing of knee prostheses involve a lot technical fields, for instance joint surgery, biomechanics, image processing, materials science and mechanical engineering etc. In this paper, using reverse engineering and rapid prototyping technology, a new kind of design ideas is proposed in this article. The main research contents are as follows:1. It introduces the recent knee joint's research situation and problems generally, and describes the basic concept and application in biomechanics of RE/RP.2. According to human body's CT images and imported artificial knee prostheses prototype, the corresponding three-dimensional models are established respectively using reverse engineering.3. On the basis of human 3D knee models, we measure the parameters and then do some statistics and analysis. Ultimately, a standard model database of human knee joint is established.4. In the light of the characteristics of people's knee geometric configuration, the knee prostheses are redesigned, and the database of artificial knee prostheses is established, which meets the Chinese standards. Select a smaller human knee joint model and No.4 standardized knee prosthesis model, assemble and establish the standardized assembled knee model.5. The applications of the finite element analysis software ANSYS in the biomechanics field is elaborated. Then, the knee assembly model is analyzed from 0°, 10°, 20°with ANSYS software, and views the Mises stress of artificial prosthesis and the contact stress of the contact surface.6. The basic technique and molding process of rapid prototyping are illuminated briefly. It selects the appropriate molding technology to make rapid prototyping for artificial meniscus model combined with its characteristics.
