ObjectiveTo observe the variability of histologic lesion by the 125-iodine radion which implanted into the tissue of hepatoma and normo-liver, and to appraise the therapeutic efficacy, we used intervention intro-radiotherapy to treat the hepatoma of rabbits with 125-iodine radion. Our study could offer clinical doctors empirical and theoretical evidence about intervention intro-radiotherapy on tumor of liver with 125-iodine radion, and could help they to choose the best rational therapeutic regimen. Through this way wo can protect the normal liver tissues utmostly at the same time can get the best therapeutic efficacy.MethodsWe used 18 healthy adult New Zealand rabbits which sexual confinement was free. We divided all animials to 3 groups randomly, each one 6. They were the control group, the tumour group and the therapy group. We implanted VX2 tumour tissue pieces into left hepatic lobe of the tumour group and the therapy group rabbits through percutaneous puncture conducted by CT to make hepatoma models of rabbit. 14 days after the operation, we implanted 125-iodine radion into centric hepatoma of the therapy group rabbits through percutaneous puncture conducted by CT. And we implanted 125-iodine radion into left hepatic lobe of the control group animals while did nothing with the tumour group rabbits. We scaned all animals'liver with PHILIPS 1.5T MR system at the corresponding time after the processing factor worked, calculated the hepatoma growth rate and examined hepatic function. We observed every group rabbits'active state and survival time. We got liver samples of all animals after they died and made pathological sections.Results1. The tumour group and the therapy group animals'operated position showed long-T1 and long-T2 anomalous signal 14 days after the VX2 tumour tissue pieces implanting operation in the MRI.2. Liver cancer of the rabbits growed rapidly and the centric position of the hepatoma necrosised generally after 21 days. The average survival time of the tumour group animals was 39.5 days. The liver cancer of the therapy group growed more slowly than the one of the tumour group. The average survival time of therapy group animals was 48.2 days.3. There were no anomalous signal appeared on the MR images of the control group rabbits in every examination after the 125-iodine radion planted.4. Compared with the normal standard there was no significant difference of the control group rabbits'liver function at all checking time after 125-iodine radion planted (P>0.05). The liver function of the tumour group animals after the hepatoma model operation was worse than normal animals (P<0.05). And compared with the one of the tumour group animals'there was significant difference of the therapy group animals'liver function at the same examine time after the 125-iodine radion planted (P<0.05).ConclusionWe found the imbeded 125-iodine radion could postpone the liver cancer growth. It could retain the normal liver function and prolong the survival time of the animals also. We found no obviously abnor MRI signal of the control group rabbits after the 125-iodine radion planted. And we also observed the animals retained the normal liver function. That results showed that 125-iodine radion damaged the normal liver tissues hardly. Our study showed that the imbeded 125-iodine radion could postpone the liver cancer growth, it would can prolong the patients'survival time and improve the quality of sufferers'life. At the same time, intro-radiotherapy could retain the normal liver function utmostly because of the little injury on the normal liver by the 125-iodine radion. We consider that 125-iodine radion intro-radiotherapy is safe and effective treatment of liver cancer. And our results offer the clinician a new therapeutic tool of carcinoma.
