| Objective:To investigate the correlation of pain with depression in Orthopaedic inpatients. Methods:Totally 107 Orthopaedic inpatients at the Shanxi medical university second clinical hospital from March 2010 to April 2010 were enrolled, they were divided to two groups according to disease categories:acute pain(fracture) and chronic pain group(cervical and lumbar chronic disease),rule out the possibility of consciousness during hospitalization and mental illness (history) patients, Used self-rating depression scale (SDS) assessed patients with depression, visual analogue pain scale (VAS) method for evaluation of patients with pain.Results:(1) acute pain group VAS score was higher than chronic pain group, between the two groups P=0.012 (<0.05) were significantly different. (2) acute pain group SDS mean score was higher than chronic pain group, the average score between the two groups P=0.021 (P<0.05) were significantly different. (3) The Orthopaedic inpatients VAS average score of SDS score more than 53 points higher than orthopedic patients less than 53 points, between the two groups P=0.002 (P<0.05) were significantly different. (4)The depression incidence rate of orthopedic inpatients with mild pain was 6.89%,moderate pain was 24.19%,severe pain was 37.5%. The incidence of depression increased with the degree of pain, compared among the three groups, X2 =6.516, P=0.038 (P<0.05), there are significant differences. Conclusion:The VAS pain score of orthopedic inpatients with acute pain higher than chronic pain group, the degree of pain and the incidence of depression was positively correlated, the higher the degree of pain, the higher the incidence of depression. |
