| Objective The study aims to the HIV/AIDS prevalence level and HIV/AIDS risk factors for community residents aged 2 to 59 in Ningnan County Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, so as to provide scientific evidence for better HIV/AIDS prevention and for future research on HIV/AIDS. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted. Methods With the stratified cluster sampling choose 3,232 aged 2 to 59 of the region's community. The study investigated on the demography characteristics and the HIV/AIDS-related risk behaviour by face to face interview, and included a laboratory tests for HIV, HCV and syphilis. Data entry was using Epidata 3.1 software and data analyses were using SPSS 16.0 and Stata 9.0 software. Results A total of 3,232 community objects were interviewed at the first survey. The mean age was 32.1 years. Among them,43.2% were male and 56.8% were female. The Main minority of them were Han (79.1%) and Yi (17.8%). Most of the people were married or cohabiting. (86.2%), junior college and below education (93.1%) and farmers (78.8%). Among these objects aged 15-59,2(0.06%) were having experience of drug use.0.6% reported having multiple sex partners during the past year and only 31.2% used condoms in recent one-off multiple sex.223(8.9%) were working outside during the past year. Laboratory tests for HIV, HCV and syphilis were testing 3,232 blood samples. Among these samples, found one case of HIV positive blood samples as a Yi male. The HIV positive rate of community residents was 0.03%. The HIV positive rate of Yi minority was 0.2%.7 HCV positive blood samples was found, the HCV positive rate of community residents was 0.22%. The syphilis-positive blood samples were not found. Conclusion The HIV/AIDS positive rate in Ningnan County is low, the study results can reflect the regional HIV/AIDS prevalence. Combined with the previous reports and this study, the HIV/AIDS prevalence level of Ningnan County was one of the lowest in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Thus regular monitoring and intervening for high-risk groups, early and effective prevention for the local public will be the focuses of HIV/AIDS prevention in Ningnan County. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted. Using a convenience sampling strategy,69 male prisoners and 21 workman aged 15 to 52 were selected to participate in face to face interview and a laboratory tests for HIV, HCV and syphilis. The face to face interview focus on the demography characteristics and the HIV/AIDS-related risk behaviour. Data entry was using Epidata 3.1 software and data analyses were using SPSS 16.0 and Stata 9.0 software. Results There are 90 male prisoners and workers were interviewed at the second survey. The mean age was 31.0 years. The Main minority of them were Han. (66.7%) and Yi (31.1%). Most of them were married or cohabiting (56.7%), junior college and below education (81.1%) and farmers (52.2%). Among them,9 (10.0%) were having experience of drug use. Among those drug users,7 (77.8%) reported injecting drug users and 85.7% of those injecting drug users had shared needles before. Among them,17.8% reported having multiple sex partners during the past year and only 37.5% used condoms in recent one-off multiple sex.17.8% were working outside during the past year. Laboratory tests for HIV, HCV and syphilis were testing 90 blood samples. Among these samples, found 3 case of HIV positive blood samples. The HIV positive rate was 3.33%. All of the 3 positive samples was Yi male form the prison, the HIV positive rate of Yi minority was 10.7%.7 HCV positive blood samples was found, the HCV positive rate was 7.78%. The syphilis-positive blood samples were not found.Conclusion HIV/HCV positive persons were concentrated in injecting drug users group and male prisoners group in Ningnan. The risk factors of HIV/AIDS epidemic of Ningnan were minority (Yi), male (20-39 years old), drug abuse (Injecting drug users, needle sharing) and the relationship with multiple sexual partners. Among these risk factors, injecting drug users and needle sharing were the major risk factors. Thus regular monitoring and intervening for high-risk groups should be the focuses of HIV/AIDS prevention in Ningnan. |
