Objective:To study the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, evaluate the relevance between the level of cyclooxygenase-2 protein expression with the clinic pathology parametric in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Investigate its predicting value and clinic significance for the development situation on nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods: The immunohistochemistry method and Western blot method were used to determine the expression of COX-2 protein in all specimens. the consequence analyzed.47 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients were collected, which confirmed by biopsy. Of the total 33 cases by IHC and 14 cases by Western Blot. At the same time, 24 nasopharyngitis tissues were detected also rolled in as the control. Among the total 12 cases by IHC and 12 cases by Western Blot. Results:Positive staining rate of COX-2 in specimen of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (81.8%) was significantly higher than that of nasopharyngitis tissues (25%)( P = 0.001). Western Blot assay revealed that relative COX-2 protein level was 1.258±0.034 and 0.487±0.076 respectively in the two tissues, which was significantly higher in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(P=0.000).Conclusions: The expression of COX-2 is enhanced in NPC,which correlated with metastasis of NPC, and it may become a mark of judgement on its biological behaviour and metabasis potentiality.
