Objective: To detect the expression of IGF-IR and its protein in human urinary bladder cancer, evaluate its role in the carcinogenesis and progression of tumor and clinical significance. Methods: Semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression of IGF-IR and its proten in 30 urinary bladder cancer and the corresponding adjacent normal tissues and 30 normal urinary bladder tissues stored by liguid nitrogen ,and analyze their relations with clinicopathologic characteristics. Results: IGF-IR gene was aberrant expressed in both urinary bladder cancer tissue and the corresponding adjacent normal tissue, and the expression in urinary bladder cancer tissue was more than in the corresponding adjacent normal tissue(P<0.05).The normal urinary bladder tissue had no expression of IGF-IR gene(P<0.01).Of the 30 urinary bladder cancer,IGF-IR protein was detected in 19 cases;of the 30 corresponding adjacent normal tissue,8 cases had IGF-IR expression(P<0.01).The aberrent expression of IGF-IR protein in urinary bladder cancer has no relationship with some clinicopathologic characteristics, such as:gender, age, tumor size (P>0.05),but were significantly related to the depth of tumor invasion, the tumor differention and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).Conclusion: IGF-IR and its protein are aberrant expressed in urinary bladder cancer and maybe play an important role in the carciongenesis and progression of urinary bladder cancer.IGF-IR gene is considered to be a biology indicator of tumor.
