Objective To evaluate the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization for pelvic hemorrhage which caused by different reasons, including bleeding by myoma of uterus, bleeding by cancer and postpartum hemorrhage. Methods 65 patients underwent femoral artery puncture by Seldinger,s technique, a 5F Cobra catheter was used with a hydrophilic polymer-coated 0.035 inch guidedwire, superselectiv catheterization to the bilateral internal iliac arteries or uterial was followed after the bleeding sources was proved by digital substraction angiography(DSA)techniques; All patients with pelvic hemorrhagic were included:Bleeding by myoma of uterus in 35 cases, Bleeding by cancer in 18;12 patients with acute massive haemorrhage. To evaluate the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization for pelvic hemorrhagic which caused by different reasons. The prognosis was investigated by successfully embolized, the bleeding was controlled partially, or embolization recurrence and inefficacy after the transcatheter arterial embolization. Results After operations 65 patients were performed successfully, the rate of succeed was 100%, followed-up 2 years, 13 of them recurred, the total rate of availability was 80%; 5 cases of bleeding by myoma of uterus were recurred, the rate of availability was 85.71%; 1 case of postpartum hemorrhage recurred; the rate of availability was 91.67%. There is no distinctive disparity between Myoma of uterus group and postpartum hemorrhage group. 7 cases of cancer were recurred, the rate of availability was 61.11%; There is distinctive disparity between Myoma of uterus group and cancer group. Conclusions There is the following advantages of few recurrence, mini-trauma and safety by the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization for Myoma of uterus and postpartum hemorrhage to treat. The short-term effect of bleeding by cancer was certainly positive, and the medium-term and long-term effect needed to be observed.
