The study aimed to evaluate a new surgical method for cavenous transformation of the portal vein by prosthetic vessel replacement, which did not need portosystemic shunts, disconnection and splenectomy. Two patients were involved in the study. The results revealed that the cubage of spleen was increasingly decreased, and the function of liver and the blood stream of the portal vein had improved to normal level. Thus, prosthetic vessel replacement of portal vein might be considered as a safe, feasible and new method for treating the cavenous transformation of the portal vein.
