Theorical And Empirical Studies On Acne With Traditional Chinese Medicine

This research, basing on the traditional chinese medicine theory, has systemicly reviewed pertinent literature about prevention and curing of acne in traditional and Modern Medicine. According to relevant study, pathologic mechanism and therapeutic method were investigated. we also come to a conclusion that yang exuberance and the heat heaping in lung and stomach are the main reasons of the occurrence of acne. While eating and drinking without temperance is an important causative factor, sputum and blood coagulation are the key point of aggravation and repetition. Our therapy aims mainly at clearing the heaping heat of lung and stomach as well as dissolving dampness and activating blood circulation.According to this theory we make up xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction which is composed with baikal skullcap root,dan-shen root,the root bark of the peony tree,mongolian dandelion herb,Chinese lobelia herb,Chinese hawthorn fruit,Malaytea scurfpea fruit,Lobed kudzuvine root and Ma-yuen jobstears seed.Objective:To observe the effect of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction on acne and explore its possible mechanisms so as to provide scientific basis for its clinic uses. We choose aldactone group as a comparison,use golden hamsters as the model group, check estrogen and androgen in serum of the golden hamster and observe its sebaceous glands.Methods:Forty male golden hamsters, weighting 100±20g, were randomly divided into five groups:the model group, aldactone group, the big dosage group of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction, the middle dosage group of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction, the small dosage group of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction。There were eight golden hamsters in each group. All of the hamsters were fed with standard feedstuff regularly five days to adjust to surroundings and then were irrigated drugs the sixth day. The feather by both sides of the hamsters had been cut completely with electric shaver at the beginning. After all hamsters were addicted, we measured the right sebaceous glands by rule on the sunlight.The golden hamsters of each group were fed with 2ml of liquid one time a day for one month.The hamsters in model group were fed with 0.9% saline, while the hamsters in aldactone group were irrigated with aldactone 6.25mg/kg, the other there groups were fed in order with liquor of xiao-cuo-yu-rong 19.167g/kg, 9.583g/kg,4.792g/kg.After one month, we picked off all hamsters'eyeballs to collect blood samples. Then detected the serum concentrations of sex hormones of hamsters by RIA. After that all of the hamsters were put to death, then measured the right sebaceous glands by rule on the sunlight and took the sebaceous glands on the bilateral costal regions by the side of golden hamster for observing the microstructures under the light microscope.Results:1.The xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction whose effect is directly proportional to dosage within certain range, can make sebaceous glands become small,and the cell withered, sparse and thin.2.The xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction which have dose-dependent relationship within certain range,can decrease the level of serum testosterone, lightly raise the level of serum estrogen. The xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction can raise the ratio of E2 to T.3.The big dosage group of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction is superior to aldactone group in sebaceous glands and sex hormones of hamsters.Conclusion:The results indicate that xiao-cuo-yu-rong Decoction can decrease Proliferation of sebaceous glands and inhibits the sebaceous function. The mechanism of the therapy of xiao-cuo-yu-rong decoction maybe credited with the anti—androgen action. lightly raising the level of serum estrogen and the ratio of E2 to T.
