| Objective: To investigate the prevalence and distribution of mental disorders of Urumqi residents and to explore the condition of mental health service in recent years. Method: A population size of 1156 were investigated in the five community centers with questionnaire of GHQ-12 and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire; analysis all the cases of mental patients in hospital from 2003 to 2009, collect the data of allotted fund in mental health service. Result:â‘ The incidence of mental disorders of Urumqi residents was 36.89%. In the face of difficulties and setbacks;the residents with mental disorders (high risk) scored higher than those without mental disorders whether positive or negative coping style(22.83 vs. 18.44;9.07 vs. 7.69).â‘¡From 2003 to 2009,the population of mental patients in hospital increased every year,average growth rate was 14.92% in seven years. The cost of additional care and psychiatric medication was 1400 Yuan in 2003;and 2200 Yuan in 2009.â‘¢From 2003 to 2009,invested funds in general health increased every year,average growth rate was 21.30% in seven years;invested funds in mental health also increase every year,average growth rate was 8.53%. Average growth rate of invested funds in general health is 2.5 times as many as in mental health. Conclusion:â‘ The incidence of mental disorders of Urumqi residents was higher than other areas of the country that is thought to result from the city's special geographic, cultural environment ,social life and increasing pressure in recent years.â‘¡Disease burden caused by mental illness is a problem that should be solved quickly in medical and health field today.â‘¢We should expand health services, pay special attention to mental health, explore various forms of health security and increase financial input to mental health. |
