Chinese characters are playing an important role in making Chinese culture kept developing day after day. During this process, Chinese characters go through two stages:the ancient and the present. Nowadays, various studies and exercises on forms of Chinese character in different fields most focus on the present part. Design conception going deep, studies attach much weight to the presentation and spirit of ancient Chinese character forms on design ideology, culture, aesthetic consciousness, and concept of value.This thesis takes inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells, and bronzes for object of study, taking advantage of thinking model combined design and art, with methods in calligraphy, archaeology, and character stylistics. First, it reorganizes the evolution of ancient Chinese character. Second, it analyses linear arts, structure characteristic, and visual psychological states of the forms of ancient Chinese characters, sorting out a series of implements feature for writing or being engraved, in order to point out the harmonious aesthetic relationship between character forms and implements. Then, the thesis sums up the design ideology and traditional aesthetic spirit of Chinese ancient design in a penetrating way. Finally, proceeding to the development of ancient Chinese character forms, the thesis summarizes the harmonious aesthetic autorhythmicity in this process, that it is a necessary result to be accepted due to social customs. Further, the influence of this kind of autorhythmicity would involve new transformations in two fields. On one hand, it would make the development of ideology of Chinese calligraphy art be improving day by day. On the other hand, when people from a part of minority nationalities in China and other countries in East Asia intend to create their own characters, they would follow the rule that an agreement must be established by the people through long social practice. The author's researches will not only expand the way of study in Chinese character forms, but also provide artistic Chinese character form design with theoretical sources in creative mode of thinking.
