Rabbit Tetralogy is the masterpiece of John Updike, who is an outstanding contemporary American writer. The Rabbit series depict the life experience of Harry, the protagonist whose nickname is Rabbit. This Thesis analyzes the image of Rabbit in three aspects: His fear of death; his irresponsibility for his family and his over indulgence in sex and junk food. His escapes from home bring the family members tremendous hurt; his over-indulgence in sex makes him isolated by his family members, the over-indulgence in junk food damaged his health, in the end he died alone. Rabbit is a person who is obsessed with the sense of the impending death, self-centered, irresponsible and antipathetic.
