With the updating of foreign language teaching methodology, more and more teachers praise the target language only teaching highly. While in reality, the phenomenon of teachers'use of code switching often appears in foreign language classroom teaching. The contradictions between ideality and reality cause great attentions by many scholars. Having been proved by many theories and practices, code switching as one of the teaching methods, plays important role in foreign language teaching. In order to promote English teaching better, based on previous research findings, this thesis do a further study about the phenomenon of teachers'use of code switching in the college English intensive reading classes in China.This thesis adopts the comprehensible input theory which is composed by Krashen and the theory of language transfer as its theoretical basis. It points out teachers play important roles in promoting students'comprehensible input. If they can make full use of the positive transfer of native language, and restrain the negative transfer efficiently, students'foreign language acquisition fossilization can really be prevented.This thesis takes the combinations of the qualitative and quantitative research methods, and adopts the questionnaires,the class observation and recordings,the experimental study and the interviews to collect data. From the analysis of the collected data, it is found out that the phenomenon of code switching exists in college English intensive reading classes widely, and almost all of the teachers and students have positive attitudes toward this phenomenon. Seen from the results of the experiment and students'interviews, teachers'code switching can improve students'comprehensible validity. But teachers should control the quality and quantity of the use of code switching, if it can be used in some appropriate time and percentages, it's certain that it can promote English teaching and the improving of students'English levels, whereas the overuse or random use of it can prevent students'language acquisition. So teachers should have acute observational abilities, and try to take the code switching method appropriately according to the full realizations of students'English levels. All in all, code switching can only be used as a teaching strategy, and it can gradually be reduced with the improving of students'Englis h levels. The final aim of English classroom teaching is still the target language only teaching, although it is a hard and long journey.
