Chenghuang Temple is a representative building of old city, a tourism attraction in Yuci. The architectural complex of Chenghuang Temple was built strictly according to the shape and structure of ancient Chinese architecture. The well-distributed and symmetric arrangement of the architectural complex fills people with grandeur, mystery and awe. The mural art of Chenghuang Temple is prominent in its craftsmanship and rich techniques of expression which are all of a piece with the temple and convey the unique information of regional folk cultures. Through the information of folk cultures, mural art of Chenghuang Temple skillfully combines nature, human culture, history and art together and well preserves the continuity of historic cultures, uniqueness of regional cultures and art of traditional mural decorations. Although the area of it is small, the mural art is rich in its contents and is the epitome of spirit and culture in ancient China. Meanwhile, the mural art highlights its special function which combines and integrates the communications of different regions and ethnic cultures between architecture and mural art. Some of mural decorations, which look like Chinese character"EIGHT", are the most prominent and embody aesthetic values. These mural decorations fully embody the feeling of quantity, tension, movement and the overwhelming momentum in terms of the expression of artistic means. What's more, they are designed beautifully and skillfully. On the one hand, the expression of artistic means fully inherit traditional cultures of Chinese decorative art and attach importance to the unity between artistic elements and architectural styles, the harmony between material quality and architecture, the perfection between model of building and decorations.On the other hand, the expression of artistic means present different beauty of visual forms, texture, coloration, emotion and decorative art. Folk cultures have deep connotation of regional culture, and historical, cultural, aesthetic values. Among these, aesthetic taste, creating awareness, craft techniques, content, themes and rich expressions are subject to the influence and penetration of folk cultures. The unity between mural art and its doctrine contents elevates its aesthetic values over the pure combination between mural art and its surroundings. Folk cultures bring us aesthetic pleasure and values which play an irreplaceable role in public art fields these days. How to make folk cultures and beautiful mural art today continue to play its role? How to combine excellent regional folk cultures and aesthetic together through mural art and continue conveying cultural information in public wall decoration fields today? How to create contemporary cities embodying Chinese characteristic cultures? This topic is worthy of being studied.
