Conceptual metaphor is not only a matter of language but a cognitive tool for human beings. It exists throughout our daily life. As the cognitive tool, Conceptual Metaphor provides a theory base for language learning.In English writing teaching, use of vocabulary and coherence are the base of good writing. So the thesis the working mechanism and feature of conceptual is elaborated. From the elaboration we can find out there is close relation between conceptual metaphor and English writing. And the thesis tends to apply the conceptual metaphor theory to college writing. To testify the feasibility of applying the conceptual metaphor theory to college English writing teaching., the author carries out a 12 weeks'experiment in two classes from Shen Yang normal university. The experiment includes pre-test, experimental teaching and post test. To the experimental class the conceptual metaphor was given while to the control class they are taught by traditional method. After the experiment the data was analyzed by SPSS.At the end, the limitations, major finds, suggestion are put forward.
