Chinese culture is very integrating and assimilating. Since it was introduced to China at the end of Eastern Han Dynasty, Buddhism had finished its course of Chinese-like by Tang Dynasty, whose paintings, sculptures, and grotto architectures of temples also showed rich Chinese features. Meanwhile, Buddhism theories integrated with idiomatic Chinese culture, forming the unique New-Confucianism and realizing the nationalization of culture in the communication between eastern and western culture. At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the country was in poverty and weakness, so the wise people started to learn from the west the ways to save the country and the people. That lead to the communication between the east and west again. The advancement of Chinese technology, the development of economy, the power and richness, and the establishment of socialism with Chinese characteristics are all closely related to the culture's integration and assimilation. It wins time for China's modernization, and shortens the gap with developed countries. Under such background, Oil painting is introduced to China as a means of colonization. During several centuries'development, oil painting in China has changed from passive imitation to positive creation, from the silence of oil painting to the strong voice of nationality. The imagery oil painting with Chinese aesthetic awareness begins to form and develop. This paper first introduces the course of development of oil painting in China. When oil painting was introduced to China by the preachers, it didn't grow up because of the domination of traditional Chinese painting. Then, with the formulation of traditional Chinese painting becoming stronger and stronger, the artists began to learn from oil painting to change Chinese painting, and oversea study became heated. When these students graduated and returned China, most of them became the backbone of the modern painting education, and bringing up the followers. With the development of times, Chinese oil painting gradually found its way out, and formed its own language system. The imagery oil painting grounded on traditional Chinese culture was forming. The second part is a general review of imagery oil painting. The author starts with a brief summary of the impressionism of Chinese painting and the imagery of oil painting. The imagery oil painting both focuses on the creation of impressions that Chinese painting emphasizes and pays attention to the description of the images in oil painting. It integrates the advantages of eastern and western painting, shapes its own language features, and starts a path to the nationalization and internationalization of Chinese oil painting. The third part makes a statement on the language change of nationalization of imagery oil painting. The author starts with the light and line, compares traditional Chinese painting and traditional oil painting and clarifies the inheritance, the integration, the expansion, and the innovation of imagery oil painting to the former two kinds of painting. The author tries to comb from the micro-perspective and techniques to locate it.The paper analyzes from macro-background, theoretical basis, and techniques and skills, for the purpose of making the concept of imagery oil painting become more 3-dimensional and clearer. However, due to the limitation in theoretical knowledge and the immatureness of the skills, there must be some weaknesses about this artistic phenomenon. I definitely will perfect it in the following days of artistic practice and devote myself to the research at and development of imagery oil painting.
