Listening is the most frequently used language skill in daily life. Meanwhile, it is an important teaching content in current National College English Syllabus. This thesis will adopt the interpersonal function theory of Functional Grammar in analyzing listening comprehension test and teaching. The present research explores listening comprehension test and teaching based on interpersonal function theory, differing from the usual angles such as psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics and pragmatics. The overall approach of the current study is qualitative rather than quantitative, combining the example analysis with experimental teaching. The paper analyzes the listening comprehension test of CET-4 in terms of interpersonal function, mainly focusing upon three aspects: the speech role, Mood and Modality. The examples to be analyzed were carefully selected from the short conversations of listening comprehension in a recent CET-4 to discover the distribution of interpersonal function in the listening comprehension of CET-4. Based upon CET-4, it aims to objectively evaluate students'language ability in regard to interpersonal function and tentatively applies interpersonal function theory to listening teaching. With an experiment on listening teaching in light of the interpersonal function theory, it came to conclusion that the teaching practice with the guidance of interpersonal function theory had certain effects and improved the students'listening skills to some extent.
