Raising questions is one of the most common teaching activities in the College English classroom, and the quality of questions directly influences the classroom activities. The effective questions depend on the questioning strategies teachers adopt. Jef Verscheren's Adaptation Theory brings a new perspective to language production and interpretation and sheds light on the dynamic process of language use. Based on the data collected from the empirical study, this thesis first summarizes the questioning strategies teachers adopt in the College English classroom, and then analyzes the frequency and using conditions of teachers'questioning strategies. At last with the Adaptation Theory as a theoretical framework, this thesis makes a comprehensive analysis on the adaptability of teachers'questioning strategies used in the College English classroom. The results of this thesis indicate that the utilization of teachers'questioning strategies is not arbitrary, but adapts to the contextual factors. And this thesis analyzes the adaptability of teachers'questioning strategies from the three aspects: adaptation to the mental world, to the social world and to the physical world.
