Jiang Shiquan, one of top three poets in Qianlong period, is famous as both a poet and a playwright. Study since the Republic of China has been concerned more about his traditional opera than his poetry, and his achievement in poetry is not as famous as his achievement in traditional opera. Study on more than 4,900 poems and poetic theory of Jiang Shiquan is a little weakness. Based on the results of previous studies, this thesis uses the poetry of Jiang Shiquan as research subjects. Placed him in Qianlong period and Jiaqing period poetic circles, the thesis discusses how life experience had a influence on his poetics by exploring his life and the time he lived, probes deeply into the relation between his attitude changing and his poem creation through the analysis of his poetry, estimates Jiang's poetry objectively, re-examines the value of Jiang's poetry and its influence on the history of poetry.Introduction of this thesis revisits previous studies on Jiang's poetry. The main body is constituted by four chapters. The first chapter makes a brief overview of the life of Jiang Shiquan. The second chapter compares Jiang's poetics theory with poetics theory of these genres in Qianlong period and Jiaqing period poetic circles, explains the influence made by these genres on his poem creation by exploring Jiang's communication with Qian Zai, Yuan Mei, Shen Deqian and Weng Fanggang, and highlights Jiang's poetics theory which is established in absorbing from other genres but of his own style. In this chapter two key issues were addressed: First, of which Qianlong period poetic circles genre Jiang was. Second, which poetics Jiang held: the Tang Dynasty poetics, or the Song Dynasty poetics. The third chapter, which was the focus of this thesis, makes some criticism and discrimination of change in poetry artistic style in Jiang's different creation period by outlining Jiang's life experience and analysing his poetry. The forth chapter re-examines loyalty, filial piety, moral integrity and personal loyalty advocating in Jiang's poetry, discusses the enlightenment value of Jiang's poetry and historical evaluation of Jiang's poetry. The last part of this thesis determines Jiang's poetry's historical status and influence based on the acceptance of Jiang's poetry among poetic circles in Qianlong period and later. Jiang Shiquan is a great master in poetry whose achievement is impressive in Qing Dynasty Qianlong period, his poetry can not be ignored in the poetry history of Qing Dynasty.
