In Germany history, Weimar Republic only lasted for just 14 years. In these 14 years, Germany has established the frist bourgeois republic; has created "Weimar Constitution" which was considered to be the most democratic constitution over the world at that time; has achieved the post-war economic recovery and cultural prosperity. However, in these 14 years, it has continuously afflicted the economic, political, social difficulties and other crises; been suffered from Nazi forces and internal pressures, and ultimately ended because Hitler gained power. After its end, the Third Reich established which brought aggression to human civilization. The fate of Weimar Republic is unfortunate, but as a typical example of the democratic failure in the world's wave of democratization, it has important oretical values for enriching democratic theory and fascism research, and also has a great significance to the political developments in other countries.Weimar democracy was born untimely. The article starts from Weimar democracy which lacks the general agreement, and describes some unfavorable factors, such as German traditions, national mentality, and so on. Weimar democracy is a defective democracy which is the decisive factor to the end of the Weimar Republic. Hitler how to seize the favorable opportunity and gain the power is also an important content of the article. The fact that the Nazis came to power played a role in acceleration to the end of Weimar Republic.This Paper is divided into three parts, the first part discusses Weimar democracy is a defective democracy. It was the lack of democracy in general agreement. War reparations aggravated the plight of the people's life, Ruhr crisis pushed Weimar Republic to the edge of economical collapse. Social disintegration, political crisis, and the Republic getting closer to the abyss of crumbling. The section also analyzes the importance of the middle-class support for Weimar Republic. Economic bankruptcy is the main reason that middle-class have lost confidence in the Government and turned to Hitler. Dawes Plan was an economical revolutionary movement in Germany. It propelled the appearance of the economical rejuvenation, economical development furnished supportive conditions for political stability. But the depression evoked finance and democracy crisis in politics in Germany. In the face of crisis, leaders had lost support because of their corrupt policys and incompetent manifestation. This section also sums up the defects of the political system, such as the proportional representation system and the President's emergency disposition.The second part explores the reasons which created conditions for Hitler, such as economic crisis, the Nazi party's demagoguery, financial assistances of monopoly capital and the reactionary forces, the German national characters, etc. Hitler's personal ability is also an important reason that shouldn't be ignored.The last part discusses the referential significance to other countries. The modern states should recognize the domestic and international situations, use the present conditions, and promote domestic democracy actively, steadily.The article makes some recommendations about how to prevent the democracy to dictatorship. For example, we should establish a limited democracy, and improve the quality of democracy by creating an equal, fair and transparent election. In addition, democracy needs efficiency, systerm in an orderly way and the implementation of political responsibility are conducive to the implementation of efficiency, while the modern states expand the platform for citizen participation, improve the quality of citizens, and absorb elements of direct democracy as much as possible, etc., are all conducive to a stable and healthy development.of modern democracy,In short, Weimar democracy is an unsucessfull democracy, but the failure is the mother of success, the modern states can learn a lesson, incorporate the essence, abandon its dross, and take their own road to democracy. This is the contribution of Weimar democracy to the world.
