In the dissertation, the author claims that the theory of Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard proposed by Gu Zhengkun will be a good application to movie translation which highlights the multiplicity and complementarity. In the main body, the author discusses the possibility and necessity of applying the theory of Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard to movie translation, then illustrates the application of the theory to movie translation with examples of dubbed and subtitle movies in terms of three aspects:the aspect of characteristics, the cultural aspect and the aesthetic aspect. Inspired by the dialectic way of thinking in the theory, different strategies are applied in accordance with different perspectives, with some of which are primary and some of which are secondary for the purpose of achieving the effect of the "optimal similarity" in movie translation. In conclusion, this thesis summarizes that the theory of Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard can serve as a guidance and can achieve a great effect in translation practices. However, the thesis also points out that the theory is proposed as a new perspective on the study of film translation instead of the sole supreme translation theory guiding for all translation.
