Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" has caused great controversy since the publication. Domestic research mainly focused on "Entropy", "Seek mode", "Black humor" and "Technical rationality" and so on. The focus of attention is how Pynchon has destructed and subverted the modern society through the post-modern expression, metaphor system consisting of the text suggests the human social chaos and disorder until the tragic fate of the dead. The "Gravity's Rainbow", known as the classic post-modernism work, its post-modern quality is mostly showing up to questioning and resisting technocracy, as well as search and torture of uncertainty. In fact, postmodernism has not only destruction and negative, but also has positive and constructive content. That is to say, there are two different post-modernism. This thesis believes that Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" did not declare the end of the world through the cold description. On the contrary, the picture of the world he provided in this novel contains an apocalyptic human spirit and the subtle and profound romantic feelings. Because of giving too much emphasis on the deconstruction of postmodernism and ignoring pay enough attention on the constructive connotation., it's caused that we haven't fully realize this novel's significance and valuation to some extent.
