The narrative technique of defamiliarized point of view employed by Woolf endows To the Lighthouse with the remarkable artistic charm and the unique aesthetic significance. This thesis aims to analyze the defamiliarized characteristics of point of view as well as its structural and thematic significance from the perspective of literary stylistics. For over a century, there have been many researches about Woolf and a trend of multiplication has appeared with the time. Even that, it is still worthy of researching her works now, especially the research of the narrative modes of her novels, such as the point of view which is meaningful to be researched. This thesis tries to analyze the defamiliarization of the point of view in details on the basis of the theories from stylistics and narratology. In To the Lighthouse, Woolf utilized the creative mode of defamiliarization to put the traditional narrative one away, which made her one of the greatest masters of literature in the world with a unique style.Woolf is a writer who pays equal attention to both the theory and the creation. She abandons the traditional narrative modes and topics, endeavors to renew the traditional view of aesthetics and explores new fields for novel's art form with fresh vitality. With her individually unique view of aesthetics and theory system, Woolf persists in practicing her own creation belief. During her life she pursues a perfect and ideal form for art to effectively convey spirit and life of modern people and try to reach a balance between creation belief and style. In order to make the work express clearly the subjective world and inner emotion of human and the concern for human soul, she adopts a creative narrative mode which is totally different from the omniscient omnipotent point of view generally used by realistic writers. In her creative mode of narrating, she internalizes the point of view and takes the characters' flows of inner thoughts and consciousness as the starting point. To the Lighthouse typically shows the defamiliarization of point of view with the mature use of the stream of consciousness. In this novel, Woolf decreases the proportions of the narration from the omniscient omnipotent point of view as much as she can and mainly uses the limited point of view with subjective narration. At the same time, she shifts the point of view to form multiple points of view, aiming to highlight her creation theory---subjective trueness. Generally speaking, in To the Lighthouse, the subjective world of human is displayed clearly to design the novel's plot and structure by using shifting limited point of view, with third-person limited perspective as the main mode and shifting the point of view.
