A unified consequence has not been obtained on patioes which appeared in the noble graves of Sui and Tang Dynasty in different quantities and whose structural origin and process have not been known. This essay, by collecting and analyzing data of patio graves, discovers that patio structure in massive noble patio graves of Sui and Tang Dynasty rooted in vertical-hole leaning graves of late Neolithic Period of Xiaoheyan Culture which is in the middle and southern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This kind of irregular vertical-hole cultural factor, by communication and emergence among nations in the early time, developed and evolved with human cultures.Vertical-hole cultural factor emerged in early period of Xiaoheyan Culture moved along with south of Yinshan, and was found in Miaozigou Culture in Ordos Plateau in the southern of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,it moved toward Ningxia, Gansu, and Qinghai Province. The evidence is that increasing numbers of patio graves were found in relics of Caiyuan Site, Majiayao Culture, and Qijia Culture of Ningxia Province. This kind of culture came into a fast expanding phase after accepted by regions mentioned above. At Bronze Age of Central Plains, patio graves cultural factor expanded to Shanxi Province which later formed early Qiang Culture. As the prehistoric aggravation of national emergence in the west northern regions, pre-Zhou Culture and Qiang Culture affected and absorbed from each other, and patio graves became the main style of graves in minor nations. Different nations and cultures communicated and emerged frequently which affected the formation and evolvement of patio graves. At the late period, graves with one grave passage, one vertical-hole type, and one grave passage, several vertical-hole types appeared. The patio structures in different patio graves and periods reflect the difference of social institutions and practical functions. Therefore, we could embark on object structures of special graves to research problems of national emergence, cultural communication, and social change.
